Isaac Erhart

December 2021

Congratulations to Isaac Erhart, our December 2021 Rising Star!

Isaac was nominated by Holly Flanagan-Matzen:

"I nominate Issac Erhart for the Rising Star Award. He is a junior at Lincoln Southwest High School. Last year, Isaac’s high school was on a 3-2 schedule which means students attend in person classes two days a week and do zoom classes two days a week and alternate every other week when they go zoom or in person for the 5th day. As you can imagine, this can be disruptive for a learner. Isaac rose to the challenge of this very fluid schedule as well as knowing exactly what his grade standings are in each class. This year and last year, Isaac has had masks to contend with in school. While teachers are provided with clear masks, they no doubt are the same as if being able to hear uninhibited. Just imagine Isaac being home on a zoom day with the teacher wearing a mask (for the non-zoomers) and him still having to learn with bilateral cochlear implants and still maintaining very good grades!?!? The amount of effort he puts into his school work astounds me. While being in good academic standing at school, he is a very active participant in SNRP activities. Isaac has participated in Nebraska’s Academic Bowl team. Last year in the Art of Coding event, he created a crane that can be used to pick up various objects. Isaac also attended the Nebraska Transition Summit for Students Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing where he spent time learning about life after high school. This fall Isaac will also be working as a runner at Roca Berry Farm. While Isaac is a quiet kid when you first meet him, once you get to know him, he has a very quick sense of humor. He is kind and polite to all he meets and wants to do well in this world. He has a very technical sided mind as he can solve a Rubix Cube in under a minute (I’ve seen it) and will put together items to make robots. He’s, for sure, one in a million!"
