Congratulations to Antonio Mendoza, our May 2021 Rising Star!

Antonio was nominated by Sarah Preston:

"My name is Sarah Preston, and I am a deaf and hard of hearing teacher with ESU #13 in Scottsbluff, NE. I would like to nominate one of my students for the rising star award. His name is Antonio Mendoza and he is a freshman at Scottsbluff High School. This will be my third year working with Antonio and I have seen so much growth and positivity from him throughout our time working together. It was a big transition for him coming from the middle school to the high school, but he handled it very well and has really been motivated to do his best in all of his high school classes. He has also adjusted to this pandemic very well. He has not complained one time about having to wear a mask, waiting for activities to be canceled, or having to learn online when schools closed last spring. He has also been taking a lot of initiative with his classmates and teachers to teach them more about Deaf Culture and American Sign Language. His interactions show that he is very proud and excited to share more about himself and to be able to communicate more effectively with his teachers and peers. Antonio always has a smile on his face, which still shines through, even with his mask on. I am very proud of all he has accomplished and overcome over these last few months. Good job Antonio!!!"
